Course Description
This course will address ways to gather, analyze, and manipulate the big data of the digital age to empower our analysis, criticism, and creativity. The DH Seminar is a hands-on class mixing theory and practice.
In this class we will:

develop data hacking skills across media

refine critical thinking skills to better understand experience and identity in the digital age
-
experience multiple subfields of digital humanities
-
collaborate on digital projects
-
build expertise applicable to the workplace and/or academic research

Please see the syllabus for the schedule and activities of the class, as well as the location of the class sessions, as we will be moving around the university. The course will meet Fridays 9:10AM—12PM in the Spring 2015 semester.

Behave professionally. Remember that harassment and sexist, racist, or exclusionary jokes are not appropriate.
Grade Components
Attendance and Participation: 15%
Failure to attend five or more classes will result in a failing grade in this course. More than two absences will affect your attendance/participation grade. Please let me know ahead of time if you will be absent.
Weekly Tasks: 25%
You will have certain tasks to do throughout the course. See the syllabus for the “homework” due for each session. You will receive one cumulative grade for each week’s assignment. You can check your grades in d2l.
Final Project: 30%
Midterm: 15%
Final: 15%
Grading Scale
92..100% : 4.0; 85..92% : 3.5; 80..85% : 3.0; 75-80%: 2.5; 70..75%: 2.0; 60-70%: 1.0; 0..60%: 0.0
